SINGAPORE AIRLINES - Cabin Baggage Allowance

Size and Dimensions

Under the SIA Cabin Baggage Policy, each passenger will be allowed the following:

·         Quantity : 1 piece *

·         Dimension : Length + Breadth + Height
(including protrusions) must not exceed 115 cm (45 inches) in total subject to stowability.

·         Weight : Up to 7 kgs

*First and Business Class passengers may be allowed two items, subject to local country specific requirements,  specific aircraft cabin space and stowage availability.

The following are deemed to have constituted as one piece of cabin baggage:

·         Trolley Bag - 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm (22" x 16" x 8")

·         Garment Bag - Dimension not exceeding 115 cm (45") & Thickness not exceeding 20 cm (8")when folded

·         Briefcase - 50 cm by 40 cm by 25 cm (20"x 16" x 10")

Oversized Musical Instruments

Oversized musical instruments can only be carried on-board the cabin if you purchase an extra seat to accommodate it. You can only book the seat for the instruments in the Economy Class and you must also travel in the same class.
Exception: You can travel in a different class of service as your musical instrument/s if you are traveling as a group, where other members of your traveling party are accompanying your musical instrument/s in Economy class.

·         Large musical items (e.g. Cello, Guitars, etc) must be placed on the floor and be properly secured by seats belts to the seat frame. At least 4 infant seat belts are required. First/Business class seats do not have accessible seat frame to secure the large instruments on the floor.

·         The Maximum weight and dimension allowable is shown below.
o  Weight: 75 kg
o  Dimension: Height – 61”
o  Width: 19” (Based on armrest to armrest seat width)
NOTE: A Double Bass is not allowed on board as it exceeds the height limit set above.

·         Although Guitars are normally less than 7kgs (within the cabin weight allowance), it may be considered as  oversized due to its (dimensions) ; and  may not be allowed in the cabin if no extra seat/s  have been purchased for it.  If you do not plan to purchase an extra seat, Guitars should be check-in  and be packed in a suitable hard case  to avoid damage.

Articles allowed on-board

All airline members of the International Air transport Association (IATA) have agreed to observe the following baggage regulations. You may carry on board the articles listed below free of charge over and above your free baggage allowance:

·  A lady’s handbag

·  An overcoat

·  An umbrella or walking stick

·  A laptop or notebook computer

·  A small camera

·  A reasonable amount of reading material for the flight

·  Infant’s food for consumption in flight and infant’s carrying basket

·  A fully collapsible wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches and/or other prosthetic devices for the   passenger’s use provided the passenger is dependent upon them

·  Infant’s stroller provided the infant is on board the aircraft

Checks: Adherence to the hand-carry baggage allowance will facilitate security checks at the airport as well as minimise the likelihood of injuries caused by luggage falling from overhead compartments. It will also help ensure the aircraft cabin remains clutter-free, for easier movement by fellow passengers and the crew.

Checks will be carried out on our flights at check-in and prior to boarding. Cabin baggage may be charged excess baggage if it has to be checked in and the total weight of the check-in bags exceeds the passenger’s allowance. Luggage and hand-carry items that exceed the allowed limits will be retrieved and stored in the aircraft cargo compartment, which could result in unnecessary personal inconvenience.

We, and any other carrier on which you travel, retain the sole discretion to determine, for purposes of your safety or the safety or comfort of other passengers, whether any item of your baggage will be permitted in the cabin or carried as checked baggage.
